Contemporary Art Center KAIROS holds fourth edition the ART FESTIVAL – annual international artists competition in art residence format. Well-equipped workplace, materials and tools, food and beverages are provided by the Organizer.
ART FESTIVAL 2023 has two main sections:
1. MAIN SECTION. It is a joint research project on the topic CROSSING THE HORIZON in different techniques (painting (+ graphics, + murals); sculpture (various media - plasticine, metal, clay/fireclay, others), installation, mixed media, + distance block: 3D sculpture competition).
2. PARK SCULPTURE (stone symposium format for our part or for indoor installations. Metal, wood, plastic mediums are also highly liked)
The main goals of the festival are:
- search for like-minded people in the development of a new language, a new formation of fine arts;
- creation of a platform for communication and collaboration;
- strengthening and developing international cultural ties.
The main requirements and attitude of the participants towards the creating works: aspiration for the form harmony (color and form), sincerity and courage in this search; the usage of space/volume as an accurate reflection of a conceptual idea.
Artists will be selected for the festival based on sketch (the topic is CROSSING THE HORIZON) and portfolio. Professional art education is welcomed, but not required. Repetition of your own early works in a sketch on the theme of the festival is not welcome, duplicating of other artists works are unacceptable.
Participation in the festival is free for artists. All costs of creating works are the Organizer expense. Works created within the festival are the property of the Organizer.
Airport transfers and accommodation for festival period will be provided for our international guests.
Detailed conditions for participation in each section:
1. Art Festival 2023. MAIN SECTION (12–18 artists)
This section is for the talented, brave and open-minded searchers. An important innovation this year is a joint study of the festival theme during first 3 days (October 2 - 4, 10am – 18pm), discussions of its various aspects, lectures by art critics and curators, self-presentations of artists, sketches discussion, acquaintance with art-space for the final exhibition and its concept formation. During this study, the artists will be able to change the sketches and change/finalize the technique/medium from:
- painting/graphics
- sculpture (plasticine, metal, clay/fireclay, etc.)
- installation
- outside all formats
As a result of the festival will be the exhibition CROSSING THE HORIZON, opening on October 22 at 14:00 (about 1,000 square meters). We already have the experience in festivals holding of bronze sculpture and painting (see links
a day from Art Festival 2022,
works of Bronze Art Festival 2021,
exhibition after the festival 2020) and everything necessary for these contests (
1400 sq.m. equipped art workshops, which will be fully accessible to invited artists during festival), however, we go further and this year we encourage artists also to create installations, as well as try other techniques and formats.
During the period October 5-21 all the artists participated in the study to work independently on their projects in the Organizer's workshops (sculpture workshop, ceramic workshop, painting workshop, exhibition hall, stone processing area). Access to the workshops is provided from 8am to 20pm all days except Sunday.
Based on the voting results of the international jury (the jury list will be published in the near future), the winner of the competition will receive 5,000 Belarusian rubles (approx 1.500euro).
A separate experimental block without personal presence at the festival is the remote submission of 3D models (with the possibility to demonstrate them on screens or through printing via 3D printer). Detailed terms of this section will be announced later. II. Park sculpture (4 artists)
Contemporary Art Center KAIROS is developing sculpture park over the past few years (
more about it). The goal of 2023 symposium is to add modern, daring and vibrant forms to the park, with probably kinetic and sound sculptures. List of stones available for the symposium,
